2015 Ford Edge EcoBoost Review with video

2015 Ford Edge Exterior Front-002

The great crossing two row is a rare breed. With compact crossovers get less compact and people defected to supersized three rows, Toyota and Honda have chosen to kill the Venza and Crosstour while Ford pressed on an o verhaul of the Edge. You can think of the Edge as "tweener" cross grooving between the escape and explorer while at the same time the spiritual successor (in modern form) to the Bronco and Explorers two rows of old. Although Ford says the Edge is a complete overhaul, you might be forgiven for thinking this is more of a refresh, and thats not a bad thing because Edge was already one of the most attractive options in this segment cabin phone size.

Exterior
Although 2015 board is more like a slightly massaged 2014 a new model, it actually goes on another platform with two all-new engines under the hood and shares surprisingly little to its predecessor in terms of parts. The Edge of last generation has been designed around "CD3" parts bin Ford which was co-developed with Mazda and from these building blocks came the next generation Fusion, Mazda6, MKZ and even the CX-9. 2015 Ford pulls the new CD4 parts bin which is the basis for the ongoing merger and will be the basis of the new Taurus and Flex among others. Although weight reduction is in fashion these days, the exchange platform provides less than 100 pounds empty weight of the Edge.

This change in the sheetmetal explains growth edge which is up to four inches overall with a one inch stretching wheelbase. The increase gives the advantage of a smoother and less boxy profile than before, while offering more interior space. Meanwhile, Ford nailed to a new grille that strikes me as the fusion of style indices Hyundai and Ford. Since the Venza and Crosstour leaving us this year (the production has allegedly already arrested), it means direct competition edge is in the shape of Sport Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan Murano and some versions of the Sorento Kia that comes either as a two or three crossing rows for 2016. If you want to expand the pool, the largest Cherokee and Lexus RX are crossed plausible stores, although Jeep is far off target road and RX truly rivals the ritzy brother of the Edge: Lincoln MKX.

2015 Ford Edge Interior Dashboard

inside
Havi ng not sitting inside an edge in about a year, I had to hunt one down for understanding this modified. The short answer is: everything. The long answer is: the design is quite similar to the outgoing model as the current Edge buyers will feel like home, but different enough to give them a reason to hire another. Ford merged the squarish style within 2014, with design elements of the latest Focus and Fusion. Instead of continuing the Ford strategy of minimalism button, 2015 adds to make the infotainment system and climate control easier to use.

seat comfort front is excellent, although youll find that the seats of the new Murano is a softer hair and 2016 Sorento (top end caps) offers a wide range of seat adjustments. Rear seat comfort is excellent and I find most comfortable aft cabin that competition, especially the Jeep that has strangely stiff seat cushions. Seat comfort is generally a reason to upgrade from a compact crossover to this catego ry of medium size. Much of the increased comfort comes room for greater leg and headroom. 2015 Edge wins three inches of the combined room vs. the outgoing model. The space for the legs is measured way seems to be a subject of constant debate, highlighted by space figures for similar legs you get in the Honda CR-V. However, in the real world, the Edge feels not only larger, but it is larger in practical terms as well. In the board, I am able to properly install a child seat rear-facing behind a 62 "passengers, something I could not do in the CR-V. On the way back, you will find 25 to 40 percent more cargo space than most compact crossovers, but less than average crossover 3 ranks in 3rd row folded.

2015 Ford Edge MyFord Touch

infotainment
touch infotainment system Ford is not long for this world. from the calendar year 2016, we will see the start of the highly anticipated SYNC3 system rolling in Ford models. Until that the software update, however striking, the Edge soldier with the base system SYNC 4.2-inch or optional 8-inch MyFord Touch (optional on SEL and standard on Titanium and Sport). Since the LCD love is fashionable, the SEL models can be equipped partial LCD instrument cluster ubiquitous (standard on Titanium and Sport) Ford where twin 4.2-inch displays flank a large central tachometer. Base models get a 6 unbranded audio speaker system and buyers can option an option premium 9-speaker or a Sony audio system with 12 speakers as our tester was equipped. The dual-LCD system begins to look to the report LCD clusters are optional trim in high-end Grand Cherokee and Sorento, but on par with what is in the Murano.

MyFord Touch is one of the most maligned infotainment systems on the market, but it is also one of the most feature rich. Even in 2015, there are still broad brands that do not offer voice control of your music library USB connected. At this point, Ford has addressed most of the major problems plaguing the launch of the MFT system except for speed. Interact with the touch screen requires patience screen changes are much slower than alternatives Kia, Chrysler, GM and Toyota.

integrated telematics systems that send vehicle health reports, allow you to call a concierge, ask for emergency assistance and know when your air bags went to see a renaissance. This generation infotainment system Ford SYNC includes services that offer the OnStar telematics as without the integrated modem. However, if you forget your phone and you get into an accident, the car can not cope with.

2015 Ford Edge 2.0L Ecoboost Turbo Engine-001

Training
the last time we looked at the Edge, Ford made the four-cylinder 2.0 liter turbocharged option of $ 995 on the 3.5-liter V6. In an interesting reversal, the V6 is now a $ 425 optional engine and the 2.0-liter is standard. Despite the same displacement, the 2.0-liter is almost a new engine. Ford increased compression, fiddled with fuel and lubrication systems and plated on a new twin-scroll turbocharger for greater efficiency and a broader torque curve. Power is up 5 hp and 5 lb-ft over last year to 245 and 275 respectively, with a beefier power strip. Thats 35 fewer ponies than the V6 option, but 25 lb-ft more. Also different from last year, you can finally get the little Ecoboost engine with all-wheel drive

Making the most athletic than before Edge Sport is another new engine :. 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 Ford F- 150. Posted to the side under the hood of the Edge, the turbo-s ix loses a little power, but always wins the outgoing 3.7-liter V6 of 10 hp and 70 lb-ft (315 hp 350 lb-ft). More impressively, the couple arrives at 1,250 RPM boil earlier. In perhaps the most interesting twist Edge Sport does not come standard with the AWD . True, all 350 lb-ft of torque are routed to the front wheels only by default. Torque steer? You betcha.

Torque steer is not just what classifies the turbo 2.7-liter. The turbocharged 2.0-liter lots of this particular demon under the hood as well. (Although I find the act of entertaining torque control, I also willingly bought a new Chrysler LHS in 18 years, so take that into consideration.) Put the pedal to the metal and the small turbo engine roars to life with a lag of hair that is very similar to the 2.0-liter turbo BMW. After 7.5 seconds Edge will hit 60 mph, followed by the quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds. Its almost half a second slower than the Murano and V6 Grand Cherokee, but only a hair behind the Sorento and Santa Fe Sport with the 2.0-liter turbo. Shoppers should know that a dealer supplied V6 3.5-liter was only 2 / 10ths faster at 60 and displayed essentially identical numbers 1/4 mile of drinking more fuel. Why is there a $ 425 option ? Because some people just want six cylinders. (In case you were wondering, a short essay in Edge Sport AWD (supplied dealer) raced to 60 in a rare 5.8 seconds.)

Curb weight ranges from 3,912 books in the base model 2.0-liter Ecoboost FWD to a maximum of 4,236 pounds in the Sport FWD model. If you want AWD, it adds about 165 pounds, bringing the Sport AWD at a pretty hefty 4,400 pounds when fully equipped. Despite the weight, the Edge handles surprisingly well. You can thank a number of things for that: the track of 64.8 inches wide, rubber 245 standard width and a suspension design that is linked to global Ford portfolio, including the current European Mondeo. Surprisingly enough, the leap from the base SE or Sport trim Titanium does not buy you wider rubber, but the aspect ratio falls to 245 / 60R18s in the SE 245 / 55R19s in titanium and 245 / 50R20s in sport . While the aspect ratio and spring rates obviously play a role in lateral grip, the SE and Sport are closer than you think. (As an option late in 2015 Ford will offer an optional package wheels and tires 265 / 40R21 rubber with summer that we could not test.)

The weight to heavy vacuum, moderately soft springs and tires 55-series com bine to give the advantage a tour of the road complies floating above the pavement rutted and rough stride. Although not as sweet as the new Murano, Edge has a nice balance because Nissan often feels too soft on your favorite winding mountain road. Hyundai Santa Fe Sport really deserves its name because it feels more agile and athletic in the corners. Hyundai weighs about 500 pounds less, which certainly does not hurt, but the suspension is granted on the firmer side of this segment. On the other side is the Grand Cherokee, with its mission off road weighs more, is higher on the floor and feels heavier. Meanwhile, the Sorento straddles the middle segment with an empty weight of light and medium-firm sources. Steering feel is numb but accurate and I had no problem understanding what the front wheels were up.

Priced between $ 28,100 for FWD SE model and $ 48,100 for the Sport AWD finishing Edge starts more expensive and higher scales that Korean options. However, consumers need to look beyond the low starting price with Kia and Hyundai because the basic models of Santa Fe and Sorento come with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder that is considerably less potent than the base engine Edge and Koreans have less features as standard. Hyundai and Kia equipped with a tur bocharged 2.0-liter that they compare more directly with Edge and they ring in at $ 31,250 and $ 31,100, respectively, giving Ford the upper hand in MSRP. The price of the continuous value against Nissan and Jeep with Edge undercutting Murano about $ 1,000 through the line and Jeep by $ 1,500-2,000 depending on options.

Nissan Murano won the award for being the best highway cruiser in the pack. The Jeep is the alternative off-road and Edge is the leader in value. Kia, however, is my first choice. The Sorento has a fresher look, it is slightly larger with a nicer interior and a 0-60 time is a little faster too. The Sorento handles surprisingly well in its latest high-end trims are better equipped than the Edge. While the Sorento EX is more expensive than a basic board, you get more content features in the Kia and when you compare high-end cuts the Sorento is cheaper. The only problem with the Kia Sorento is trying to compete with Edge, Escape and Explorer with one vehicle. G et Sorento base and its price to escape with 2 lines and a 2.4L low. Sorento 2.0-liter turbo is a 2-row luxury crossover with Nappa penchant optional HID headlights and leather. Check the box for the V6 and you get a small third row to your mother-in-law as a smaller alternative to Explorer. This means that competition V6 edge is reduced to only the Nissan and Jeep.

After a week with the 2.0-liter Ecoboost Bord I came to some conclusions. First up, skipping the V6 because it really makes no sense. Fuel economy in the 2.0-liter turbo is better and the performance is almost identical. Second, get AWD even if you live below the snow belt, unless you really love couple. Third, the front wheel peel in a 2.7 liter twin-turbo Edge Sport FWD made me giggle. If youre shopping for the best 2.0-liter turbo crossover in this segment, stop by your Kia dealer. However, if you want something of this size that will put a smile on your face without braking the bank, the Edge Sport is the CU V you seek. The Edge Sport AWD bridges the gap between the fire-breathing Grand Cherokee SRT and current cross as the Sorento and Santa Fe Sport. Think of the Edge Sport that the gravel road version of the Taurus SHO. Ill take a red.
